Dubai, UAE, 13 May 2020 – Arc, a joint venture launched by du and Batelco, has been appointed by Emergent Telecommunications LL (Emergent) as the lead consultant for the Orient Express submarine cable system. Arc will provide consultancy services related to network configuration, tendering, supply contract negotiation and documentation, and overall project management for the Orient Express cable.

The Orient Express cable will directly connect the UAE and Pakistan, enhancing the bilateral commercial relationship between the two countries. It will fit into China’s belts and roads strategic trade policy initiative. “We are proud to be supporting the first subsea cable system to connect Pakistan to the UAE directly. It is an opportunity to work closely with our partners and use our experience and expertise to make the Orient Express cable a success in the long-term,” said Mahesh Jaishankar, CEO at Arc. “This is an example of how we can help organisations across the region to connect and deploy new services that benefit businesses and end users across the region. It is an exciting project and a great partnership.”

The 1,300km cable system will link between landing points in Karachi and Gwadar in Pakistan, and Kalba in the UAE. With the support from Arc, the Orient Express will be on course to deliver the cable on time and with best-in-class technical specifications.

“We’re excited to collaborate with Arc to connect the UAE and Pakistan through the Orient Express cable. Arc has the resources, experience and knowledge to drive large complex submarine cable projects and ensure that this strategic cable system will be delivered on time, on budget, and according to best-in-class technical specifications,” said Haider Bokhari, Chairman at Emergent Telecommunications. “We connect smart digital technologies that benefit both businesses and end users.
