Arc brings decades of expertise and experience in the strategy, planning and deployment of high-performance networking across the MENA region

Dubai, UAE, 13 May 2020 –
Arc, a joint venture launched by du and Batelco, has been appointed by Emergent Telecommunications LL (Emergent) as the lead consultant for the Orient Express submarine cable system. Arc will provide consultancy services related to network configuration, tendering, supply contract negotiation and documentation, and overall project management for the Orient Express cable.

The Orient Express cable will directly connect the UAE and Pakistan, enhancing the bilateral commercial relationship between the two countries. It will fit into China’s belts and roads strategic trade policy initiative. Once complete, the Orient Express cable will offer high-bandwidth capacity, internet services, and transit facilities with low latency for local customers.

“We are proud to be supporting the first subsea cable system to connect Pakistan to the UAE directly. It is an opportunity to work closely with our partners and use our experience and expertise to make the Orient Express cable a success in the long-term,” said Mahesh Jaishankar, CEO at Arc. “This is an example of how we can help organisations across the region to connect and deploy new services that benefit businesses and end users across the region. It is an exciting project and a great partnership.”

The 1,300km cable system will link between landing points in Karachi and Gwadar in Pakistan, and Kalba in the UAE. With the support from Arc, the Orient Express will be on course to deliver the cable on time and with best-in-class technical specifications.

“We’re excited to collaborate with Arc to connect the UAE and Pakistan through the Orient Express cable. Arc has the resources, experience and knowledge to drive large complex submarine cable projects and ensure that this strategic cable system will be delivered on time, on budget, and according to best-in-class technical specifications,” said Haider Bokhari, Chairman at Emergent Telecommunications. “We connect smart digital technologies that benefit both businesses and end users. The Orient Express cable is just one more way we’re helping to deliver a digital future.”

Arc’s mission is to simplify intra-regional connectivity in the Middle East for carrier, cloud, content and major enterprises. It is led by a team of experts in data centre interconnection and ICT ecosystems in the Middle East. Emergent Telecommunications is a managed services provider with over 20 years of experience in telecoms and IT infrastructure, based in the UAE.

“At Arc, we’re seeing tremendous interest in its business model with organisations of all kinds looking for a simpler way to connect and optimise applications and services in MENA,” said Faisal Qamhiyah, Chairman at Arc. “Simple and seamless inter-regional connectivity supports innovation, transformation and growth of the digital economy in the region. Arc simplifies and accelerates regional connectivity to data centre hubs

across the Middle East

CAPACITY EUROPE – LONDON, UK, 29 October 2019 – Arc was launched to simplify connectivity across hubs in the Middle East with interconnected data centre solutions. Carriers, cloud and content providers and enterprises will benefit from rapid access to networking and data centre infrastructure across the region, with a single platform, contract and experience.

Arc was developed with investments from du (EITC), UAE and Batelco, Bahrain, and will directly address the need for seamless regional connectivity that can offer optimised digital experiences. It is bringing cloud, content and communications to the edge and closer to users across the Middle East. As an initial phase, Arc is connecting over 30 points of presence, integrating data centres in the UAE and Bahrain, and connecting terrestrial and submarine cable systems.

“The challenge for network-centric businesses in the Middle East is to rapidly connect, optimise and control their services while having presence as close as possible to users,” said Mahesh Jaishankar, CEO at Arc. “For too long, it has been costly, complex and time-consuming to roll out applications and services across markets in the Middle East. Arc directly addresses this challenge and provides a seamless platform for connecting across borders, similar to what we have seen in other regions around the globe.”

Arc is working with carriers, data centres, cloud and internet exchange (IX) partners across the region to continually expand its reach and grow across markets. It enables customers to build flexible and agile network ecosystems and deliver exceptional digital experiences to end users.

“Today’s ICT market is all about agility and experience. It’s about seamlessly connecting hubs and growing your ecosystem across the region,” said Ananda Bose, Board Member Arc & Chief Wholesale & Corporate Officer at EITC. “We’re proud to be investing in Arc and supporting an innovative business that will ultimately benefit the region and the entire value chain, from carriers through to end users.”

Arc delivers easy access to a comprehensive suite of connectivity and data centre solutions and services. Operating at the internet’s edge, users benefit from ultra-low latency, secure and high-performance connectivity.

“For digital transformation and cloud adoption to grow in the Middle East, it needs to be simpler to connect and host solutions at the edge of the network,” said Adel Dalyami, Board Member Arc and Chief Global Officer Batelco Global. “We are excited to invest in Arc and accelerate innovation across the Middle East. Arc supports a range of customers with an all-in-one solution that includes global points of presence, world-class data centres, multiple subsea cable systems and all major hubs across the region. Arc is a powerful yet simple solution that has been long overdue in the Middle East.”
